Jammin Reggae Archives:
"...these guys are deeply schooled in the roots-reggae verities, but they are equally comfortable delivering high-energy dancehall rhythms as well, and they know their way around a mixing desk -- the dub versions included in this generous program are unusually well done. The songwriting is intelligent, and singer Nathan Martisius, refreshingly, puts the roots grooves across without trying to affect a Jamaican accent....this is one of the most impressive debut albums from an American reggae band in recent memory."
Good Times Santa Cruz, Voted "Best Band"
"If you listen to 'Positive Trip,' 'Down in Santa Cruz' and 'One life' in a row, you will know what D.C. is all about... Santa Cruz is our home base... it has the happiest, rowdiest people and they can feel what we are doing"

Metro Santa Cruz:
"Influenced by the sounds of such dub masters as Lee 'Scratch' Perry and King Tubby, as well as other reggae greats, the members of Dub Congress grew up with groove in their souls... With their own brand of heavy hip-hop beats, swaying reggae, and a roster of original tunes, here's a show that'll have you dancing well into tomorrow."
Metro Santa Cruz:
"Dub Congress comes out swinging' with bass lines thick enough to get your head stuck in 'em and vocal harmonies that Toots & the Maytals would be proud of." -David Espinoza
Monterey Coast Weekly:
"Dub Congress is a first-rate, urban style reggae/dub band the will move ya, groove ya, and put ya in da space." -Chuck Therman
Metro San Jose:
"Dub Congress echoes Steel Pulse with nice melodic flavor, reggae vibes and socially conscious lyrics."
-Todd S. Inoue
Metro Santa Cruz:
"Protesting offenses such as violence, racism and apathy with a positive message and an infectious beat, Dub Congress shouldn't be mistaken for a typical surf town white reggae band. The DCers don't play cheesy love songs or half-assed cover tunes, and they're not Rastas. What they are is an all-original roots reggae band influenced by a wide range of socially conscious music' Their self-titled disc is remarkable both for its production quality and in the depth of the 10 songs the band chose to record."
-Neal Rogers
Monterey Coast Weekly:
"Dub Congress comes out of the Santa Cruz area, where as young musicians they emulated reggae"s grand emissaries Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Burning Spear. In early 1995, Dub Congress emerged from their infant stage and adopted a [dubwise] style into their music, adding occasional hip-hop vocalese to their original music which has made them a popular band on the Central Coast. Their self-titled debut CD on Large Scale Records gives an overview of their growth, with the sound engineer tweaking the hip-hop roots reggae mix with reverberation. The cut "All Day Long" on the CD represents this sound well, toasting to the bong all day long in its lyrics. Message is key to this style of music, and lifestyle choices are celebrated. Those with similar sentiments will warm up to this band"s music, and dancing will be hard to resist." -Beth Peerless
